CURATORIAL TEXT FOR THE EXHIBITION

Kristína Kandriková a Lucia Veselá absolvovali štúdium maľby na VŠVU v Bratislave. Obe sa zaoberajú médiom maľby, jej presahmi, objektom a inštaláciou. V spoločnej výstave s názvom Inverzie spájajú princípy plošného a priestorového prístupu, keď sa snažia pracovať s okamihom v priestore. U Kandrikovej ide o abstrahovanú kontemplatívnu „stíšenú“ krajinomaľbu. U Veselej o efemérnu maľbu a fotografiu, ktorá tiež prestupuje do objektov z krehkých prírodných materiálov. Ideová línia sleduje krajinu, dočasnosť, (nielen) atmosférickú premenlivosť, kolobeh prírody a plynutie biologického času. U oboch sa stretávajú podobné vizuálne prvky reprezentujúce cykly prírodných dejov ako symboly zrodu, zániku a možnosti ďalšieho pokračovania. Autorky zaznamenávajú podnety vnímané počas putovania prímestskou i divokejšou krajinou. Ich cesty predstavujú ponory do prostredia aj do seba samých. Toto vnorenie si so sebou odnášajú i do ateliéru, kde vytvárajú záznamy vynárajúce sa z pamäti, ale i vedomia plnej prítomnosti. Divákovi nimi sprostredkovávajú moment spomalenia, meditácie a úvahy o nekonečnosti času a priestoru. Veselá cez krehkosť archetypov ako ovál, škrupina, kokón, hniezdo uvažuje o pocite bezpečia a istoty. Kandriková v maľbách zachytáva prchavosť, meniace sa svetlo a rôzne fázy dňa, ktoré vypovedajú o jej vnútornom prežívaní krajiny.

Inverziou vo všeobecnosti chápeme prevrátenie prirodzeného procesu/stavu naproti tomu bežnému. V prípade výstavy sa inverzným stáva pobyt v prírode, ktorý mení bežné vnímanie žitého i videného. Upokojuje a zároveň zostruje naše zmysly. Autorky však navnímané neprepisujú, nevizualizujú konkrétne, len nás pozývajú empatizovať s tým, čo objavujú ony.

Kristína Kandriková and Lucia Veselá studied painting at The Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. They both deal with the medium of painting, its overlapping, object and installation. In a joint exhibition called Inversions, they combine the principles of surface and spatial approaches, when they try to work with a moment in space. For Kandriková, it is an abstracted contemplative “muted” landscape painting. For Veselá, it is an ephemeral painting and photography, which also transforms into objects made of fragile natural materials. The ideological line follows a landscape, temporality, (not only) atmospheric variability, the cycle of nature and the flow of biological time. Both have similar visual elements representing cycles of natural events such as symbols of birth, extinction and a possibility of further continuation. The authors record stimuli perceived while wandering through suburban and wilder landscapes. Their journeys represent dives into the environment and into themselves. They take this diving with them to the studio, where they create records emerging from a memory, but also from the consciousness of being fully present. They convey a moment of slowing down, meditation and reflection on the infinity of time and space to the viewer. Through the fragility of archetypes such as oval, shell, cocoon or nest, Veselá reflects on the feeling of safety and security. In her paintings, Kandriková captures transience, changing light and different phases of the day, which tell us about her inner experience of the landscape.

Inversion is generally understood to be a reverse of a natural process/state in contrast to the usual one. In the case of the exhibition, staying in nature becomes inverted, as it changes the usual perception of what is being lived and seen. It calms and at the same time sharpens our senses. However, the authors do not transcribe what they perceive, they do not visualize anything concrete, they just invite us to empathize with what they are discovering.
